In terms of achieving the sustainable development goals, which seek to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls at public and private levels, The National Council for Women, in partnership with the United Nations Fund for Population, established the unit in 2018 with the aim of supporting and implementing the strategy to combat violence against women.

With regards to cases of domestic violence that come to the emergency department or the Safe Women Clinic, the role of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Clinical Toxicology includes conducting the medical examination, writing the forensic medical reports, and collecting forensic medical evidence.
