History:
In 1962 Faculty of medicine was founded as the first nucleus For Mansoura university Just a few years later in1969 Prof .DR Zaki Shaeer ,the Professor of internal medicine was appointed to be the founding Professor in Internal medicine department, a department whose rich and stellar tradition of excellence continues today.
During this time, Mansoura Faculty of Medicine became a leader in medical education. Internal Medicine was a central clinical feature of the school and played a significant role in all of the changes ,with innovative ideas in medical education - promoting the importance of scientific thought.
The Department of Internal Medicine honors its history in part by the naming of internal medicine services for the scientific and national community . We hope you explore our history and celebrate with us with the fiftieth anniversary of our university's founding

The Department of Internal Medicine is historically considered to be the scientific incubator that produced all other non-surgical specialties at the Mansoura College of Medicine. The department was one of the first departments that took upon themselves the educational tasks of all branches of internal medicine (Gastroenterology and hepatology - communicable and endemic diseases - endocrinology and diabetes – Hematology-Neurology –Dermatology – cardiology and Psychatry)

In addition to providing the community with the necessary medical service in these specialties, the department is credited with keeping pace with the rapid scientific development in all branches of internal medicine.
Where many units have resigned to integrated departments such as ( - Heart Department - Chest Department) and many units are still added to this distinguished series such as (( Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit - Gastroenterology and hepatology – Nephrology Unit, Rheumatic and Immunological Diseases - Critical Care Medicine Unit)
Despite this expansion in the sub-specialties, the Department of Internal Medicine is keen to maintain the mother incubator, which is General Medicine, Where it provides the community with cadres capable of serving the patient as a whole by integrating with the special units when needed. The department is keen to provide students with the overall concept of the Patient care.
