Mansoura University Announces the Harvest of the Performance of its Hospitals during 2025
• Dr. Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, confirms: Mansoura University Hospitals represent one of the pillars of the health care system in the Delta Governorates. University's hospitals and specialized medical centers have continued their pioneering performance in providing integrated and high-quality health services, confirming their pivotal role in supporting the health care system and effective participation in the national initiatives of the state. The President of the University pointed out that the performance indicators during 2025 reflect the size of the effort exerted within the university hospitals, and the commitment of the medical, nursing and administrative teams to provide the best levels of health care to patients from within the governorate of Dakahlia and the various governorates of the Republic, where the medical service was provided to nearly two million patients from various governorates, including the border governorates, in addition to the injured in Gaza and a number of Arab and African patients.
• High Achievement Rates in the "Elimination of Waiting Lists" Initiative and Full Support for Presidential Initiatives
• Nearly 2 million hesitant and more than 100,000 surgeries done in one year. The university revealed that the total number of visitors to Mansoura University hospitals during 2025 amounted to about 1.61 million patients, including 1.4 million patients in outpatient clinics, and 270,000 patients in reception and emergency departments, while the number of patients admitted to internal departments reached about 185,000 patients, which reflects the increasing reliance on the university's hospitals as a main destination for specialized medical services.
• In terms of capacity, the President of the University explained that the total number of beds in the university hospitals reached 4308 beds, including 411 intensive care beds, which enhances the university's ability to accommodate critical and specialized cases.
• During the year, surgical activity recorded a record 100,000 surgeries with more than, including 31,000 major and complex operations, 18,000 intermediate operations, and 53,000 minor operations and one-day surgeries. The list of operations included a number of specific precision interventions, including oncology surgeries, open heart, cardiac catheterization, neurosurgery, vascular surgeries, and cochlear implants.
• The year witnessed the implementation of highly specialized interventions in the field of organ transplantation, where 80 liver transplants, 86 kidney transplants, 64 marrow transplants, 72 corneal transplants, 431 open heart surgeries, beside 328 pediatric heart surgeries, 3,810 cardiac catheterization cases, in addition to performing more than 33,000 laparoscopic cases in various specialties, 22,000 dialysis sessions for adults, 10,000 pediatric dialysis sessions, 1,032 lithotripsy operations, and 134 operations Cerebral catheterization.
• In the field of diagnostic and analytical services, about 492,000 radiology examinations were carried out in various specialties, and approximately 4.66 million medical analyses were conducted within the laboratories of hospitals and medical centers.
• Within the framework of digital transformation, the President of the University explained that university hospitals have achieved remarkable progress in developing the work system, through the full implementation of the electronic reservation system for outpatient clinics, activating the electronic calling system for doctors via smartphones (as the first university at the level of Egyptian universities), following up the activities of interns electronically, and applying the electronic health files system (EHR), which contributed to improving the efficiency of reception and emergency departments and reducing waiting time, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.
• In the field of presidential and community initiatives, Mansoura University hospitals have actively contributed to the initiatives for the early detection of tumors, which include colon, cervical, lung, and prostate cancers, while providing free examinations to citizens, as well as the initiative to eliminate waiting lists, where nearly 15,000 cases were assigned to university hospitals in various specialties, and achieved a completion rate of about 85%.
• In the context of supporting national projects, the presidential project of the Liver Transplant Center at Mansoura University entered the medical service during 2025, to represent a qualitative addition to the advanced treatment system in Egypt and the Middle East, and confirms the regional and international position of the university in this delicate specialty, in light of the high-level scientific and surgical expertise of the liver transplant team, which made it one of the distinguished models locally, regionally and internationally.
• The year also witnessed the initial partial operation of the system of three new medical centers (the Orthopedic Center, the Center for Neurosurgery, and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Center), which were built at a cost of more than 750 million EGP, on an area of approximately 7,900 square meters, with a capacity of 750 residential beds, 40 intensive care beds, 33 neonatal nurseries, 20 operating rooms, and 12 operating rooms for obstetrics and endoscopy. These centers succeeded in attracting up to 30,000 patients per month in outpatient clinics during the pilot operation. With the start of the pilot operation of the internal departments of neurosurgery and then orthopedics. Preparations are currently underway to operate the departments of obstetrics, obstetrics, operations, nurseries, and intensive care units during the first quarter of 2026, which will enhance the integration of the provision of specialized medical services within the university system.
• Within the framework of the development of the emergency system, the expansion and extension of the University Emergency Hospital was launched, according to an approved time plan to reach full operation, as the hospital provides all urgent medical care services for accidents, first aid and critical cases, as the emergency hospital receives about 200,000 emergency cases annually, and performs about 15,000 surgeries to save patients in critical cases. The 1,600-square-metre expansion project consists of a basement, a ground floor and nine upper floors, and includes dedicated floors for emergency reception, operating rooms, intensive care, recovery, laboratories, inpatient accommodation, a central blood bank, and integrated radiology units. The project is set to add a capacity of 220 to 250 new beds, including 160 inpatient beds, 50 intensive care beds and 10 operating rooms, bringing the total number of hospital beds to approximately 450-500 beds. Construction is expected to be completed in 18 months, followed by a year of final preparations, bringing the time frame for full commissioning to 30 months.
• In the accreditation and quality file, the accreditation of the Arab Board programs within the university hospitals was renewed, as the university's hospitals and centers are accredited as official training centers for the Arab Board for Health Specialties in various fields, allowing doctors to complete their training and obtain recognized specialty certificates at the level of Arab countries. The renewal of accreditation and the activation of partnerships with the Arab Council for Health Specialties are part of the university's plan to enhance regional accreditation and develop the level of specialized medical training.
The Nephrology and Urology Center, the Oncology Center, and the Ophthalmology Center have also been accredited by the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control (GAHAR).
The Nephrology and Dialysis Unit at Mansoura University Hospital and the Nephrology and Urology Center have been accredited by the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) as a regional training center for a period of five years.
The Center for Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery has also received the Australian accreditation for health services, as well as four international quality certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 22000. The ISO 9001 certification for the Children's Hospital was renewed for 2025, and all the university's hospitals received the "Star of University Hospitals" shield of the first class.
• The year 2025 witnessed an unprecedented medical breakthrough, represented by the success of the team of the Center for Cardiothoracic Surgery in performing a world-class surgery to reconstruct heart valves using the patient's own tissues, according to the Ross and Ozaki techniques, and the results of this operation were published in the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
• In the field of awards, the Children's Hospital team won the Best Project to Improve the Quality of Health Services at the Saudi German Health Awards 2024, in recognition of the efforts made in improving the quality of healthcare and the use of the simulation lab in medical training.
• Within the framework of international cooperation, the College of Medicine has expanded its medical partnerships to reach 51 partnerships with local and international institutions, including the University of Texas, Iraq's Muthanna University, the Anti-Addiction Fund, and the Ministry of Health.
The hospitals also received medical delegations from the United States of America, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, China, Yemen, Bahrain, Sudan and Libya.
• Regarding institutional development, the outpatient clinic of the Ophthalmology Center and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Children's Hospital have been renovated. Additionally, the linear accelerator at the main hospital has been commissioned, and two more devices have been procured in preparation for their upcoming entry into medical service to address the pressure on radiotherapy services. Furthermore, the operating and sterilization wing at the Oncology Center has been inaugurated, alongside the trial operation of the Neurosurgery and Orthopedics Hospitals within the system of the three new medical centers.
• These indicators reflect the pivotal role played by Mansoura University Hospitals in supporting the healthcare system in Egypt, and consolidating the university's position as a leading medical and educational edifice at the level of the Republic, pointing out that the university continues to develop its medical and educational services according to the highest professional and scientific standards.
