Neurology unit

 


History of the unit and provided services


The Neurology Unit was established at Mansoura University Children Hospital in 1995 (under the leadership of Professor Mostafa El-Ayouty). The unit provides treatment and follow-up services for children with critical and chronic central and peripheral nervous disorders, whether through the internal department or the out-patient clinics. We have12 internal beds for hospitalization of cases that need specialized care in the field of neurology for children under the age of 18 years. The unit provides services to the people of Dakahlia Governorate and neighboring governorates such as Kafr El-Sheikh, Port Said, Damietta, El Sharkeya, and some governorates of Upper Egypt. We do collaboration with all specialized units in our hospital especially nephrology (for plasma pharesis) and PICU (for critical cases) and neurosurgery units for presenting optimum treatment services required for each case.


Neurology outpatient clinics:


1- Behavior and sleep disorders clinic (Saturday)
2- Epilepsy clinic (Tuesday)
3- Cerebral palsy, neuromuscular, and other neurological diseases clinic (Thursday)
Specialized Services:
1- Ketogenic diet for epilepsy patients
2- Botox injections for patients with spastic cerebral palsy and dystonias
3- Biological, plasmapheresis, and immunological treatment for all types immune affection of the central and peripheral nervous system
4- Eelectroencephalogram (EEG service of all kinds whether normal or prolonged)
5- Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Study (NCS)

1- Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
2- Video EEG
3- Visual, auditory, and somatosensory evoked potentials
4- Specialized clinics for neuromuscular and multiple sclerosis patients
