Endocrinology and diabetes unit

The Endocrinology and Diabetes unit is a tertiary referral center for northeastern part of Delta region in Egypt. Activity was started in the department of pediatrics, Mansoura University Hospital in November 1994. Science this time, the unit has served about 7622 patients including (1500 diabetic and 6122 endocrinological patients) till now. Now it is one of the special units of Mansoura University Children's Hospital (MUCH). The unit services nearly (180 diabetic patients and 700 patients suffering endocrinological problems) / year.


Goals & services


  1. Early diagnosis and management of Endocrine disorders: (Thyroid gland disorders, Parathyroid disorders, Suprarenal disorders, Growth assessment and gonads dysfunction, Pituitary disorders).
    2. Diagnosis and treatment of growth and puberty disorders.
    3. Management of obesity in children and adolescents.
    4. Study of body composition, BMD by DXA scan and bone turnover markers in children and adolescents in health and disease.
    5. Study of body composition, by BIA.
    6. In the field of diabetes (Management of type 1 DM , type 2 DM , monogenic diabetes, Management of diabetic complications, Follow up of diabetic patients, Screening programs for diabetic families, Nutritional assessment of diabetic cases, and Screening of diabetic patient for co morbidities
  2.  There are three outpatient clinics:
    • Diabetic clinic (Saturday morning- Room 1)
    • Endocrinal clinic (Monday– morning - Room1), follow up cases.
    • Endocrinal clinic (Tuesday – morning - Room 7), new cases
