"Recent Advances in Breast Cancer Treatment"
Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Ashraf Shouma, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, a specialized scientific day was held today, Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, headed by Prof. Dr. Hanan Wahba, Head of the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, with the aim of reviewing the latest international developments in the protocols for the treatment of breast tumors.
The meeting witnessed the presentation and discussion of three main axes that represent a breakthrough in dealing with advanced cases, namely
- The first session was reviewed by Prof. Dr. Amal Fouad, Professor of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, where the pivotal role of the new drug "Takatinib" was highlighted, and how it contributed to achieving tangible positive results and changing the treatment practices followed for patients with metastatic cancer of this type
- The second session was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Sherif Arafa – Assistant Professor of Cardiology and Vascular and reviewed the protection of the heart during treatment and the challenges related to the side effects of some modern treatments on the heart muscle, and how to formulate a precise treatment plan that achieves the necessary balance between the effectiveness in eliminating the tumor and maintaining the integrity of the heart function
- The third session was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Samer Siraj – Lecturer of Neurosurgery and discussed dealing with brain proliferation and the precise and modern surgical strategies used in the event of tumors reaching the brain, while emphasizing the importance of integration and cooperation between the medical team from various specialties to ensure the provision of optimal care
The scientific day concluded by emphasizing the need to update the knowledge of doctors and specialists with the latest scientific findings of strategies that combine maximum effectiveness with the highest standards of safety, to ensure a decisive response to advanced breast cancer.
