Laboratory services:

We can afford the following laboratory tests:

  • Stool examination:
  • Using different concentration techniques (sedimentation and flotation) e.g. formalin-ethyl acetate sedimentation andzinc sulfate flotation concentration.
  • Stained smears using iodine and trichromestains, and staining with Ziehl-Neelsen acid-fast stain, modified Kinyoun’s acid-fast stain, Carbol fuchsin negative stain, safranin stain, Auramine O stain, and modified trichrome stain to detect intestinal coccidian infection (Cryptosporidium parvum,Cystoisosporabelli, Cyclospora cayetanensis).
  • Kato-katz thick smear for quantitative detection of parasitic infections.
  • Preparation of thin and thick blood films, staining with Giemsa andLeishman stains, and microscopic examination for suspected cases of malaria, leishmaniasis, or Bancroftian filariasis, upon referral from Tropical Medicine Department.
  • Microscopic examination of different samples from immunosuppressed adultsand pediatric patients (e.g. bone marrow transplant recipientsand cancer patients) for opportunistic parasites, e.g. Toxoplasma gondii, Cryptosporidium parvum, Cystoisosporabelli, andCyclospora cayetanensis.
  • Immunoassay techniques, e.g. ELISA, IHA.
  • Parasitological cultures.
