Department activities

 In addition to therapeutic services, the department provides distinguished services in the fields of education and scientific research, as well as plays an important social role as follows:

First: medical services

  • The center treats in its two departments (kidney diseases / urology) one hundred thousand patients annually in the outpatient clinic and more than seven thousand patients in the internal departments, where complex operations are performed for most patients. It is worth noting that free treatment is the dominant feature of most patients who are treated.
  • The Department of Urology is known worldwide for treating complex cases, as many patients from Arab and African countries come to it, especially kidney transplants and treatment of urinary tract tumors, especially bladder cancer and urinary diversion.
  •  For example, more than 3,143 cases of total transplantation, 7,000 radical cystectomy and urinary diversion, 6953 bladder replacement surgeries, and 185,158 cases were performed to treat all urinary tract stones by fragmentation, endoscopy, and open surgeries.
  • Many famous politicians, members of parliament, artists and writers from inside and outside Egypt have been treated due to the reputation of the center and the medical department.

Second: Academic and research activities:

  • More than 1298 international research papers published in international medical journals.
  • Most of the department's doctors are members of many international medical societies.
  • More than two thirds of the doctors in the department have received national and international awards.
  • The center also contains a house for experimental animals with many animals on which international research is conducted in the field of kidney and urinary tract diseases and surgeries
  • The center also has modern research laboratories that are comparable to those in the West.

Third: Educational activities:

  • Certified by the World Health Organization for the treatment of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
  • Certified for training by the World Urological Association.
  • Conducting international training courses to train doctors in the fields of urology and kidney transplantation
  • Programs to train Egyptian, Arab and foreign residents from all over the world.
  • Educational courses for students of the Faculty of Medicine and postgraduate studies through e-learning.
  • The department awards a master's and doctorate degree in urology.
  • Television circuits for operating rooms with two meeting rooms for direct surgical education.
  • A giant computer network to store all patient data, including x-rays and various medical examinations.
  • The ability to communicate via satellite to broadcast or receive international conferences and various surgeries

Fourth: Social Services

  • The center, in two parts, provides monthly financial and in-kind assistance to poor patients who are unable to work
  • The department treats patients free of charge
  • The center in both sections provides job opportunities for more than 1937 workers and employees
