Research areas
The most important research areas in the department:
1- In the field of cystectomy and urinary diversion:
- The Department of Urology is a pioneer in this field, as it performs bladder resection and urinary diversion surgery at a rate of 20 surgeries per month.
- So far, more than 1,500 cystectomy and urethral diversion surgeries have been performed, and the patient's survival rate for 5 years is more than 40%.
2- In the field of kidney transplantation
- The first kidney transplant surgery was performed from a living donor in 1977 in the Urology Department of the University Hospital. So far, 1500 kidney transplants have been performed, and the success rate is more than 90% at the end of the first year.
3- In the field of urology endoscopy
- Laparoscopic excision of superficial tumors of the bladder as well as bladder, ureter and kidney stones have been performed laparoscopically since 1992. Laparoscopic nephrectomy and cystectomy have been performed since 2003.
4- In the field of pediatric surgery
- There is an entire department for pediatric urology that contains 20 beds, in which surgeries for minor congenital defects (such as urethra) and even major congenital defects such as ectopic bladder are performed.
5- In the field of urinary incontinence
- Surgeries have been performed to treat urinary incontinence in women since 1993. So far, more than 300 surgeries have been performed to repair stress incontinence and more than 60 surgeries to repair congenital urethral defects in girls. In addition, surgeries are performed to repair urinary incontinence resulting from prostatectomy.
6- Uro-dynamic unit
- The unit was established independently in October 1998. So far, about 21,000 urination velocity tests and more than 3,500 overlapping urination dynamics tests have been conducted.
- The unit assists in diagnosing urinary incontinence and functional urination defects, as well as evaluating urinary incontinence surgeries in men and women
